“Insomnia” is about the remorse that keeps us awake at night. The first movement portrays the internal pain and the feeling of the heart being torn apart from grief. There is constant wonder whether things could have been different if past decisions had been done otherwise. The second movement is about silently making peace with our regrets. It is time to move on just as a new day is slowly shining over the previous night.
Autumn Leaves Rustling
(for Flute, Clarinet in Bb, Percussion, Piano, Violin and Cello)
October 2022
"Autumn Leaves Rustling" was intended as a study of Vietnamese music where folk elements are used to build an impressionistic narrative. Just like the autumn wind blowing on a tree, the piece starts with a gentle breeze rustling over the leaves. This breeze will increase in volume and will morph toward a strong wind that will eventually blow away all leaves, leaving only the sound of wind whistling.
